FAQ

Short answers about the trial, licences, offline use, compatibility, and the questions people ask most about Datamosh.

Licence and trial

How long is the free trial?

The trial lasts 30 days and includes everything. Start it by typing your email address into the Licence field on Datamosh or Mosh Transplant and pressing Enter. See Installing.

Is the trial output watermarked?

No. The trial is the full product with nothing marked or held back. Without a licence or a running trial, Datamosh is locked instead: it passes video through untouched.

What happens when the trial ends?

Effects that are already running keep working until you remove them or restart Resolume. Effects added after that are locked, and the Licence field reads Licence: locked, trial ended. Enter a licence key and they unlock at once.

Why is Datamosh passing video through untouched?

Usually because it is locked, or because nothing is opening the gate. Check the Licence field's name first: Licence: locked means there is no licence or trial on this computer. If it says active or trial, work through Troubleshooting.

How many computers can one licence run on?

One licence runs on 2 computers at a time. To move it, type deactivate into the Licence field on the old computer while it is online, then enter your key on the new one.

Does one licence cover both plugins?

Yes. Datamosh and Mosh Transplant share one licence per computer; licensing either licenses both.

Do I need to be online?

Only to start the trial or activate a key, and there is an offline activation route for a computer that is never online. After that, Datamosh works offline. It checks in once a day when it can, and after 30 days without a check-in the Licence field adds check-in due. Nothing is ever restricted for being offline.

Can a licence problem stop my show?

No. An effect that is already running is never locked, whatever happens to the licence, the trial or the network while it runs. Only effects added afterwards are affected, and licensing unlocks everything immediately.

Is my licence key saved in my compositions?

No. The Licence field empties as soon as you press Enter and never stores what you typed, so a key, email address or token never ends up in a composition you share. The licence lives in a per-user folder, not in any project.

Do I get updates?

Yes. A Datamosh licence includes future versions. Install a new version over the old one; your licence and your compositions carry over. See Updating.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 30 days of buying, no reason needed. A refunded licence is withdrawn: effects added after the next check-in read Licence: locked, revoked.

I typed my key and nothing changed

Check the Licence field's name. offline - nothing changed, try again when connected means the computer could not reach letissier.ie; connect and try again, or use offline activation. That key is for ..., not Datamosh. means it is a key for another product. On Resolume 7.3 the name never changes: type folder and read README.txt.

Using it

Why isn't Mosh Transplant in the Effects list?

Because it is a blend mode. Open a layer's blend-mode dropdown and it is there. See Using Mosh Transplant.

What does the mixVal slider on Mosh Transplant do?

Nothing. Every FFGL blend mode inherits it, and Datamosh does not read it. Use Mix for wet/dry. See mixVal.

Does it work on cameras, capture cards and NDI?

Yes. Datamosh works out the motion from the picture itself, so it works on any source Resolume can show, live or recorded, at any resolution. It only needs something in the picture to move.

Does it work on HAP, DXV or H.264 files?

Yes, all the same. It never touches the file's own compression: it works on the decoded picture Resolume hands it, which is why it cannot desync or break a clip.

Should I put it on a layer or on the composition?

On the composition for transitions: with Auto Mode On Cut (Comp) it melts every clip change by itself. On a layer or group when you only want that layer moshed.

Which Resolume versions does it need?

Resolume Arena or Avenue 7.3 or later, on macOS or Windows (64-bit). 7.4 or later to see the licence status in the panel, and 7.11 or later on Apple Silicon Macs. It is made and tested for Resolume; other FFGL hosts are untested.

Does it slow Resolume down?

It does its work on the GPU, every frame. If you need headroom, lower Quality first, then raise Block Size to 32 px. Neither breaks the effect.

Why did my composition reopen with Style set to Custom?

Because the settings it restored are exactly what you saved, and the dropdown only names a style when every setting still matches it. Nothing was lost.

Why do Trigger and Hold do nothing?

Mosh Amount is at 1, so the gate they open is already fully open. Bring Mosh Amount down. See Playing it live.

Can I make other controls react to music?

Yes, with Resolume's own audio linking on any parameter. Datamosh's own Audio Amount drives the mosh itself. See Audio reactivity.

Help and privacy

How do I send feedback or report a bug?

Press Send Feedback in the Help section, or type feedback into the Licence field. Your browser opens the feedback page with the product and version filled in.

Does Datamosh send anything about me?

Only what licensing needs: your key or trial email when you activate, and a daily check-in. Crash reports are off unless you turn them on, never include your key, email, name or anything from your composition, and are only sent when you type send or always send. See Crash reports.
