Datamosh 1.0

Licence field

Everything you can type into the Licence field, what each status means, the locked state, offline activation and crash reports.

The last control on both Datamosh and Mosh Transplant is a text field called Licence. It is the whole licensing interface: Datamosh has no window of its own, so everything is typed here.

To use it: click the field, type, press Enter. The field empties, and its name changes to show what happened, for example Licence: active. It never keeps what you typed, so a licence key, an email address or a token is never saved into a composition you send someone.

Both plugins share one licence per computer. Whatever you type into one applies to both, and to every instance in every composition.

What you can type

Your licence key

LT-DATA- followed by three groups of four characters. Activates this computer online. Case, spaces and look-alike characters (O and 0, I, L and 1) do not matter. The name shows Licence: activating..., then Licence: active.

One licence runs on 2 computers at a time. A key for another of the studio's products (Vizz, Crewbox, Light, Yewee) is refused with That key is for Vizz, not Datamosh. and nothing is changed.

Your email address

Starts the free trial on this computer: 30 days, with nothing held back. The name shows Licence: starting trial..., then Licence: trial, N days left.

folder

Opens the licence folder in Finder or Explorer. Its README.txt shows the status, the licence details, when the next check-in is due, the crash-report setting, and the request code for offline activation.

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/LeTissier/Datamosh/
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\LeTissier\Datamosh\

open and open folder do the same.

check

Checks in with the licence service now. This also happens by itself: half a minute after the first Datamosh in a session starts, then once a day, and every hour while the service cannot be reached. check in works too.

deactivate

Releases this computer's seat so the key can be used on another computer, and removes the licence from this one. The name shows Licence: releasing seat..., then removed from this computer. release does the same.

The seat is only released if the licence service can be reached at that moment. Offline, the licence is still removed from this computer, but the seat stays taken, so deactivate while online when you are moving a licence.

A pasted token

A long string from your account page, for offline activation. See Offline activation.

feedback

Opens the feedback page in your browser, like the Send Feedback button.

send and discard

Answer the crash-report question, which only appears after a problem. See Crash reports.

always send and reports off

Turn automatic crash reports on, or off again. Off is the default.

What the name says

The field readsWhat it means
Licence: checking...Datamosh is reading the licence folder. It takes a moment after Resolume starts.
Licence: activeLicensed.
Licence: trial, N days leftThe trial is running.
Licence: active; check-in dueLicensed, but this computer has not reached the licence service for over 30 days. Nothing is restricted; it clears the next time you are online.
Licence: active; update window endedLicensed; this build is newer than your licence's updates. Nothing is restricted.
Licence: locked, unlicensedNo licence and no trial on this computer. New effects pass video through.
Licence: locked, trial endedThe trial is over. New effects pass video through.
Licence: locked, for another computerThe licence on disk was issued to a different computer.
Licence: locked, revokedThe licence was withdrawn by the service, for example after a refund.
Licence: ... offline - nothing changed, try again when connectedYou typed a key or email while offline. Nothing was changed.
Licence: ... type a key, an email for a trial, or "folder"What you typed was not recognised.

After something you typed, the name shows the answer until you type something else.

Locked

Without a licence or a running trial, a new Datamosh or Mosh Transplant is locked: it passes video through untouched and does no work.

That looks exactly like a plugin that failed to load, so a locked plugin says so in two places:

  • the Licence field's name starts Licence: locked, and
  • Resolume's log gets one line: datamosh: locked - no licence or trial on this computer; type a licence key or an email address into the Licence field.

A locked Mosh Transplant shows its pixel input untouched, which by default is the layer below, so the layer looks as if it has vanished.

Unlocking is immediate. Enter a key or start the trial and every locked effect in the composition starts working on the next frame, even mid-show.

Locking never interrupts a show. An effect that is already running is never locked, whatever happens to the licence or the network while it runs: the trial ending, a deactivation, going offline. Only effects added after that, or after Resolume restarts, are locked.

Offline activation

For a computer that never goes online:

  1. On that computer, type folder into the Licence field and copy the request code from README.txt.
  2. On any computer with internet, sign in at letissier.ie/account, choose the licence, and enter the request code. You get a token.
  3. Save the token in the licence folder as a file called activation-token.txt. Datamosh picks it up within a few seconds and removes the file. Pasting the token into the Licence field works too, if Resolume's text box accepts one that long.

A token only works on the computer whose request code made it.

Offline use

Once activated, Datamosh keeps working offline. It checks in once a day when it can, and being offline never restricts anything. After 30 days without a check-in the name adds check-in due, and that is all.

Crash reports

Crash reports are off unless you turn them on, and nothing is ever sent without your say-so.

If Resolume closes while Datamosh is in the middle of a frame, the next time Resolume starts the Licence field's name ends | closed unexpectedly last time - type send or discard. If Datamosh caught an error and carried on, it ends | a problem was caught - type send or discard instead. It asks once.

  • send sends that one report. The name then says report sent, thank you.
  • discard drops it. Not answering before Resolume next starts drops it too.
  • always send sends it, and every later one, without asking.
  • reports off turns automatic reports off again and throws away anything not yet sent.

A report holds the Datamosh version, the operating system and processor type, the Resolume version, the frame size, which step of the frame it was on, a one-line summary of the problem, and a random id made on your computer. Home folders and user names are removed before anything is saved. It never holds your licence key, your email address, your name, file names or anything from your composition. README.txt in the licence folder shows the setting and exactly what a report contains.

Reports go only to letissier.ie, from a background thread, never while a frame is being drawn.
