Yewee 1.0
Yewee documentation
What Yewee is, what it connects to, and where to find everything in these docs.
Yewee points a camera at a crowd, finds and follows every face in shot, and sends the result to your vision mixer over NDI, and to VJ software on the same machine over Syphon (Mac) or Spout (Windows). You run it from a web page, on a phone at front of house or on the machine itself.
It gives you four feeds at once: the picture with tracking graphics, the graphics alone on transparency, the faces cut out of the picture, and the mask on its own. Each face keeps its number while it stays in shot.
What it talks to
| Connection | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cameras | in | Webcams and USB capture devices, picked by name so they survive being replugged. |
| Capture cards | in | Blackmagic, Magewell, AJA, AVerMedia, Elgato. See Capture cards. |
| NDI | in | Any NDI source on the network. |
| Video files and URLs | in | Anything OpenCV can open, looped or played once. |
| NDI | out | Up to four feeds: Yewee, Yewee Overlay, Yewee Faces, Yewee Mask. |
| Syphon (Mac) / Spout (Windows) | out | The same four feeds on the same machine, uncompressed, with real alpha: yewee, yewee-overlay, yewee-faces, yewee-mask. |
| Control panel | both | A web page on port 8089, on the machine and on any phone or laptop on the same network, protected by a PIN. |
The NDI runtime comes inside Yewee. There is nothing else to install.
What you need
- Mac: macOS 11 or newer, Apple Silicon.
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. An NVIDIA GPU is optional: with one, and NVIDIA's CUDA 12 runtime and cuDNN installed, Yewee runs the CenterFace detector on it and can look much harder for small faces. See Tune for small faces.
- A camera, capture card or NDI source, and a network your mixer and phone share with the Yewee machine.
Where things are
Start here
- Installing: Mac and Windows, first launch, the trial and your licence key, updating and removing it.
- Getting started: from a fresh install to faces on your mixer.
Guides
- Route the four feeds into a vision mixer: NDI to vMix, TriCaster, OBS and hardware mixers; Syphon and Spout to Resolume and friends.
- Run it from a phone at FOH: the PIN, the address, and what to keep an eye on during a show.
- Choose and set up a capture card: which cards work how, and the two settings that matter.
- Tune for small faces: a whole audience in a wide shot.
- Prove the chain with the test card: before doors, every feed, every receiver.
- Two cameras on one machine: two copies of Yewee side by side.
Reference
- Control panel: every card, button, slider and setting.
- Output feeds: what each feed carries, its name, the cutout and mask settings, and the slates.
- Command line and files: every launch flag, and where settings, logs and the licence live.
Help
- FAQ: privacy, licensing, the trial, offline use, and what people ask.
- Troubleshooting: black feeds, no camera, a panel that won't load.
