Light 1.0
Light documentation
What LIGHT is, what it talks to, and where everything in these docs lives.
LIGHT is a lighting console for bands and DJs who already run their show from Resolume. You build looks (what the lights do), put them on pads in a grid, and fire them by hand, from a MIDI controller, or automatically when Resolume fires a column. LIGHT sends the result to your fixtures over Art-Net or sACN, and draws it on a 3D stage so you can build a show before you are in the room.
How a show is laid out
- Songs hold the pads for one song. You step through them with
[and]. - Columns are the parts of a song (intro, build, drop). Firing a column fires every pad in it at once, like a cue.
- Layers are the rows. Each plays one pad at a time, and layers stack on top of each other.
- Pads point at a look. One look can sit on many pads and in many songs. Edit it once and every pad that uses it changes.
- Looks are built from parts. Each part is a group of fixtures plus what those fixtures do: their intensity, colour, position, beam and any effects that move them in time with the beat.
There are more details in Getting started and the pads reference.
What it talks to
| Connection | What for | Where it is set |
|---|---|---|
| Art-Net and sACN | DMX out to your nodes, 40 times a second | Settings ▸ Output |
| OSC from Resolume | columns, tempo and resync | Settings ▸ Sync · MIDI |
| MIDI | controllers, MIDI learn, beat clock | Settings ▸ Sync · MIDI |
| A browser on the network | a tablet or phone as a remote | Settings ▸ Devices |
LIGHT runs on a Mac with Apple silicon. It works offline: nothing in a show needs the internet.

- InstallingDownload LIGHT, open it for the first time, start the trial or activate a key, update it and remove it.
- Getting startedFrom the demo show to your own fixtures lighting up, in numbered steps.
- Follow ResolumeLet Resolume Arena or Avenue fire LIGHT's columns and set its tempo over OSC, and check it is working.
- Map a MIDI controllerLoad a ready-made Akai APC layout, map any controller with MIDI learn, fire pads from a DAW, and follow a MIDI beat clock.
- Patch your fixturesFrom an empty show to a patched, placed, grouped and aimed rig, with checks along the way that each fixture answers.
- Run it from a tablet or phonePair a tablet or phone with the Mac, use it from the floor, and keep it locked between songs.
- InterfaceThe four views, every control on the top bar and status line, the stage view, the held chip, help mode and find.
- Pads and songsThe pad grid, songs, columns, layers, pads, the dials row and the groups row, control by control.
- LooksThe look library and every control in the look editor, from the header and offsets to each part's intensity, colour, position, beam and haze.
- EffectsEvery control on an effect row, the wave shapes and rates, how a spread fans an effect across a group, and the effects catalogue.
- Dials, pulses and nudgesLive control over stored looks — dials that move many parameters at once, beat-locked pulses and envelopes, and nudges you can keep or discard.
- RigThe Rig view — the fixture table, adding and importing fixtures, addressing, the inspector and calibration, groups, the stage, profiles, the fixture library and the plan.
- SettingsEvery section of the settings sheet — output, sync and MIDI, display, lock, devices, licence, updates, feedback and help.
- Keyboard shortcutsEvery key and gesture in LIGHT, as the shortcut sheet lists them.
