Light 1.0
Installing
Download LIGHT, open it for the first time, start the trial or activate a key, update it and remove it.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon. LIGHT 1.0 is built for Apple silicon only and does not run on an Intel Mac.
- A network connection to your rig (wired Ethernet to an Art-Net or sACN node is the usual setup). You don't need one to build a show.
- An internet connection once, to start the trial or activate a key. After that LIGHT works offline.
Download and install
- Download the newest
LIGHT-….dmgfrom the LIGHT releases page. Each release also has aLIGHT.zipwith the same app inside. - Open the
.dmgand drag LIGHT into Applications. - Double-click LIGHT in Applications.
LIGHT is signed and notarised by Apple. macOS asks once whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. There is no Privacy & Security step and nothing else to allow.
Local network permission
On first launch macOS asks whether LIGHT may find and connect to devices on your local network. Click Allow. Art-Net, sACN, finding nodes and serving the interface to a tablet all need it.
First launch: the trial or your key
Before anything else, LIGHT shows a full-window licence screen with the LIGHT wordmark, No licence, and two ways in:
- Start a trial: type your email and name, then press Start the trial. The trial lasts 30 days and has every feature.
- Or enter a licence key: paste the key from your purchase email. It
looks like
LT-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Then press Activate.
Both need the internet for that one step. When it succeeds, LIGHT restarts by itself and opens on the demo show. Under the buttons the screen shows a short code, this machine: …. Support may ask for it.
One licence runs on 2 Macs at a time. See Settings ▸ Licence to move it to another Mac.
What the licence screen can say
| Heading | What it means | Does LIGHT open? |
|---|---|---|
| No licence | Nothing activated on this Mac yet. | No: start the trial or enter a key. |
| Trial ended | The trial has run out. | No: enter a licence key to carry on. |
| Licensed to another machine | The key is tied to a different Mac. | No: manage your licences → opens your account at letissier.ie, where you can free a seat. |
| Needs to refresh | LIGHT has been offline longer than 30 days. | Yes, with nothing restricted. It refreshes the next time it is online. |
| Update window ended | Your included updates have ended. | Yes. The version you have is yours and keeps working. |
Where LIGHT keeps things
- Shows:
~/Library/Application Support/LIGHT/projects/, one.project.jsonfile per show. Each save keeps the last five versions beside it as.bak1to.bak5. - Fixture library: a
fixturesfolder next toprojects. It holds the GDTF files you import, so the next show starts with them. - Licence: in the macOS Keychain, never in a show file. A show you send to someone else carries no licence.
Updating
LIGHT looks for a new release once, about a minute after it opens, and never installs anything on its own. When one is out, the settings cog in the status line gets a badge. Open Settings ▸ Updates to read what changed, download it, and install it when you are ready.
LIGHT won't install an update while a show is running. The rig must have been dark for at least 30 seconds, and no other device can be connected.
You can also install by hand: download the new .dmg and drag LIGHT into
Applications over the old one. Your shows and fixture library are not
touched.
Uninstalling
- If you want to use your licence on another Mac, open Settings ▸ Licence and press Deactivate this Mac first. This frees the seat.
- Quit LIGHT and drag it from Applications to the Bin.
- To remove your shows and fixture library too, delete
~/Library/Application Support/LIGHT. Keep a copy ofprojectsif you might want your shows back.
